Generations: Songs and Stories of Rural Legacy
Generations:
songs and stories of rural legacy
As a child, Aspen remembers knowing all of her family's stories like the back of her hand, but now that both of her parents have passed on many of those details are lost forever. Aspen is on a mission to spread awareness of the importance of every person's family memories, traditions, and legacy stories. Through original music, short oral stories, and a written packet for participants, Aspen sparks memories and encourages people to share their own stories before they are forgotten. Bring this engaging storytelling concert program to your community!
Format:
- 1 hour of presentation in a storytelling concert format
- 5-15 minutes before the presentation for gathering, handing out packets, opening conversation, and/or legacy story readings
- 5-20 minutes after the presentation for meet and greet, conversation, story-sharing, and handing out additional participant packets
Technical needs:
- one electical outlet, table for stories and merch (in the case that merch sales are allowed at your event, Aspen will not bring merch)
Notes: small rooms/spaces - Aspen provides her own PA, large rooms - Aspen will connect to the venue's PA
Availability/Pricing:
- Aspen presents all over the US. The most flexibility for dates available and lowest pricing will be for locations in and near her home area of Roanoke, VA. Travel and lodging (if needed) will be included in all quotes for locations outside of Roanoke, VA. If your organization offers a travel or lodging stipend, you can opt out. If your date is flexible, Aspen will try to add you to an existing tour route, which will give you a much better price. If your date is firm and/or there is no tour route in or through your area on the date(s) you could book “Generations”, Aspen will glady come directly to you, but please understand that your quote will include estimated fuel/airfare, lodging, and/or rental car fees in addition to the standar program price.
- Aspen serves organizations and communities large and small and tries to work within different budgets, when possible and realistic, to reach the maximum number of people who can benefit from her “Generations” legacy project.
Options:
- Shorten the "Generations" program length to fit your timeframe
- Optional add-on workshop- Aspen guides participants step-by-step through writing about a personal memory, family tradition, or community place or happening lost to yesteryear. This covers: choosing a solid topic, structuring your story, adding details from personal memory, staying on topic/avoiding tangents, how to handle using names and identifying facts of others, how much to write and when to stop (so you don't ramble or try to tell your whole life in what was mean to be one short story!) This workshop is great for helping those uncertain of where to start or what or how to write to get their unique stories out! It is also a great exercise for library or community-based writing groups, large or small organization members, and ffocus groups. One flat fee per workshop, groups large or small, no attendee limit.

A- Yes! If the locations are spread out over a variety of regions or states, each one will be treated as a separate booking but there is an overall discount applied to 5, 10, or 20 bookings by the same organization within the same year, when all of the dates are in the same booking quote.
